Castroville Pottery is located in the heart of Castroville’s historic district at 1215 Fiorella Street on the corner of Fiorella and Paris streets, with a gallery and an old barn converted into a complete potter’s studio.

The gallery is open on Saturday and Sunday
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery o ffers examples of elegant ceramics, rustic pottery, majolica, raku, stoneware, and fold art made by artisans from across south Texas. Our products include handmade plates, bowls, cups, dishes, platters, vases, and many functional and decorative gifts of exceptional quality.

Surrounding the gallery is a lovely brick patio where art exhibits are held. Artists who have exhibited there include potters: Jonathan Fish, John Nelson, Stewart Martin, Tim Kelley, Brad Lum, and noted stone sculptor Rachman Ullmer.

Upcoming Workshop with Hunter Stamps

"Altering thrown forms into abstraction"

The two-day workshop will center upon construction techniques unitized to create large abstract figurative sculptures and vessels. Techniques will include assembling forms from altered wheel thrown fragments, solid constructions and hollow core building methods. Alternative surfacing techniques such as encaustics and rubber along with low-fire glazes will also be covered. Slide lectures and open discussions will cover the artist’s works as well as contemporary ceramic artists and practices.

Hunter Stamps is an Assistant Professor of Ceramics at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He received his MFA from Indiana University in Bloomington and his BFA degree from the University of North Carolina in Asheville. Hunter’s works has been exhibited in numerous national and international juried, invitational and solo exhibitions. His work has been published in periodicals such as Ceramics Monthly and exhibited in galleries across the nation. His work can be seen at www.hunterstampssculpture.com
