"Altering thrown forms into abstraction"

The two-day workshop will center upon construction techniques unitized to create large abstract figurative sculptures and vessels. Techniques will include assembling forms from altered wheel thrown fragments, solid constructions and hollow core building methods. Alternative surfacing techniques such as encaustics and rubber along with low-fire glazes will also be covered. Slide lectures and open discussions will cover the artist’s works as well as contemporary ceramic artists and practices.

Hunter Stamps is an Assistant Professor of Ceramics at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He received his MFA from Indiana University in Bloomington and his BFA degree from the University of North Carolina in Asheville. Hunter’s works has been exhibited in numerous national and international juried, invitational and solo exhibitions. His work has been published in periodicals such as Ceramics Monthly and exhibited in galleries across the nation.
